Rev. Dr. Tom Young
Tom was born in Asheville, North Carolina, and moved to Lakewood, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland, when he was four years old. He was ordained by the Presbytery of Western N.Y. (Buffalo) on May 27, 1973..
Dr. Young graduated from Ottawa University, Ottawa, Kansas, majoring in Sociology. He earned his M. Div. from Colgate Rochester/Crozer Divinity School in Rochester, NY, and his D. Min. from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, IL. He served churches in Buffalo, NY, Taylorville, IL, Overland Park, KS, Wheaton, IL and Dubuque, Iowa.
Community service has been an important aspect of his ministry. He served on the Kansas City Metropolitan Mayors’ Human Relations Council and was President of the Dubuque Area Congregations United, which included Jewish, Muslim and Christian congregations. The high point of his tenure in that organization was a Thanksgiving service led by members of the Christian, Muslim and Jewish communities.
Tom was Honorably Retired by John Knox Presbytery (Madison, Wisconsin) in January of 2013. The Youngs moved to Overland Park, KS in June of 2013, where he served as Director of Pastoral Care with Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church from 2014-2018. He was invited to reprise that role in January 2022.
