Mother’s Day Out

The Mother's Day Out (MDO) program is for children ages 18 months up to three years.

Purpose:

To provide the MDO child with the opportunity to grow and develop physically, mentally, socially and spiritually through the use of materials and equipment, along with to love and understanding necessary for this growth within the Christian atmosphere of the church.

Goals:

The following goals will be on going through the use of developmentally appropriate activities in the classroom.

  • Developing social skills by learning how to interact and play with others in a positive way.

  • Developing the skill of sharing toys, equipment and teacher’s attention in a positive way.

  • Developing large motor skills through the following activities:

  • Active play both inside and outside.

  • Body movement to music and songs.

  • Begin developing small muscle control through the following activities:

    • Painting

    • Coloring

    • Manipulative activities and toys

  • Developing and increasing listening skills and attention span through story time.

  • Developing language skills by learning to use “good” words to express needs and concerns and to communicate with teachers and peers.

  • Developing a sense of independence and encouraging a happy self image.

The PreK classroom is for children age four.

Pre-K

Purpose:

To provide the pre-kindergarten child the opportunity to grow and develop physically, mentally, socially and spiritually through the use of materials and equipment. It is also a goal of this program to prepare the child for kindergarten. This is accomplished by providing an environment rich in reading readiness activities as well as the love and understanding necessary for growth within the Christian atmosphere of the church.

GOALS:

To prepare the child for kindergarten by ongoing reinforcement in the following areas:

  • Recognition of colors

  • Practice in writing his/her name

  • Introduction to numbers and counting objects

  • Knowledge of days of the week and months of the year

  • Recognizing the changing seasons

  • Acquiring self-help skills such as taking on and off outerwear

  • Following simple 3 step directions

  • Recognizing that there is a time to talk and a time to listen

  • Sharing experiences verbally with a group

  • Reinforcing self-confidence through leadership activities

  • Working on zipping, buttoning, lacing, tying and fastening

  • Developing a sense of patriotism by learning the flag salute and patriotic songs

  • Enhancing appreciation of music using the following:

    • Tapes

    • Instruments

    • Skipping and hopping

    • Singing and drama

  • Improving fine motor coordination through:

    • Cutting

    • Gluing

    • Coloring

    • Playing with playdough

    • Easel and finger painting

    • Use of puzzles and small manipulative toys

    • Creative drawing

  • Basic knowledge of the alphabet and letter sounds

  • Introduction to basic science

  • Encouraging a happy self image
