Rev. Pierce also holds a Doctorate of Ministry degree from Reformed Theological Seminary. Dr. Pierce has served Churches in Richmond, VA. as associate minister for youth and families, Orlando FL. as minister of Christian education, Bloomington, IL. as senior minister head of staff, and as Chaplain at The Little Church of the Pines, Island Park, Idaho. Since March 2020, we can only imagine how that number has grown. So in response to the need in our very own neighborhood, we have decided to join local efforts in getting food to those who need it. Rolling Hills hosts a drive-thru mobile food pantry on the 2nd Monday of every month from Noon-1:30pm in our parking lot. We will need volunteers to help us from 11am-2pm on those Mondays. Youth ages 6th-12th grades begin their Sunday mornings at 10am in worship and are dismissed to Sunday School during the worship service (except for the 1st Sunday of the month where youth stay in worship to take communion.) Summer 2025 our youth will have opportunities to spend quality time together away from our church building. Dr. Tom Young Tom was born in Asheville, North Carolina, and moved to Lakewood, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland, when he was four years old. He was ordained by the Presbytery of Western N.Y. (Buffalo) on May 27, 1973.. Dr. Young graduated from Ottawa University, Ottawa, Kansas, majoring in Sociology. He earned his M. Div. from Colgate Rochester/Crozer Divinity School in Rochester, NY, and his D. Min. from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, IL. He served churches in Buffalo, NY, Taylorville, IL, Overland Park, KS, Wheaton, IL and Dubuque, Iowa. Community service has been an important aspect of his ministry. He served on the Kansas City Metropolitan Mayors’ Human Relations Council and was President of the Dubuque Area Congregations United, which included Jewish, Muslim and Christian congregations. The high point of his tenure in that organization was a Thanksgiving service led by members of the Christian, Muslim and Jewish communities. Tom was Honorably Retired by John Knox Presbytery (Madison, Wisconsin) in January of 2013. The Youngs moved to Overland Park, KS in June of 2013, where he served as Director of Pastoral Care with Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church from 2014-2018. He also enjoys being a member of the chancel choir. Currently, Chy is a music teacher at Arbor Creek Elementary in Olathe, KS. Chy has served as section leader, guest soloist, liturgist and cantor for several churches throughout the Wichita (KS), Toledo (OH), and Kansas City (MO) areas. He also had the privilege of serving as the director of Music for St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (Maumee, OH), Pine Valley Christian Church (Wichita, KS) and most recently First United Methodist Church (Wichita, KS). In previous directing experiences, Chy maintained all aspects of the music ministry including directing chancel choirs, planning, rehearsing and performing music that enhanced liturgy and the worship experience, hiring guest and staff musicians, and collaborating with KAKE television for weekly worship broadcasts. Chy holds a bachelor’s degree in vocal performance & master’s degree in opera performance from Wichita State University. He obtained his teaching certification through Fort Hays State University and some additional voice study from Bowling Green State University. In addition to teaching and directing, Chy also enjoys occasionally performing with opera and musical theater companies. In addition to church music and music education, Chy is also passionate about the Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing community and making music accessible to people with varying abilities.
